About the Artist
Lofty Rose
Lofty Rose is a multidisciplinary artist, creative director, and founder of Lofty Pursuits. Working across photography, visual art, music, writing, performance, and other creative mediums, Rose approaches art without strict boundaries. Her practice is an ongoing exploration of storytelling, human connection, vulnerability, resilience, intimacy, and transformation.
Based in Pittsburgh, Rose's work is deeply informed by the people and communities around her. Her practice explores themes of Black culture, queer identity, mental health, collective wellness, and the complexities of being human. Through imagery, narrative, and experience, she creates work that invites reflection while making space for stories that are often overlooked, hidden, or left unspoken.
Photography remains a central part of Rose's practice, carrying an editorial sensibility shaped by dramatic light, rich color, shadow, and intimate observation. Drawn to dark spaces and subtle moments, she uses light as a language of revelation—illuminating what is unseen and exploring the places where vulnerability and strength coexist.
Across mediums, Rose is interested in following an idea wherever it leads. A photograph can become a story. A story can become a performance. A gathering can become an experience. A creative experiment can become something entirely unexpected. Her practice is intentionally fluid, allowing different disciplines to inform and transform one another.
Through Lofty Pursuits, Rose creates, collaborates, and develops work alongside artists, individuals, and grassroots organizations. Her practice is grounded in the belief that art can preserve stories, foster connection, challenge perspective, and create new ways of seeing ourselves, one another, and the world we share.
